My many firsts yesterday.

It was my first time at the Prince Court Medical Centre. I decided to cut my ties "so to say" with APSH. Since I am not planning to have another child, I thought, I'd find myself another Gynae elsewhere. Considering it's already the last quarter of the year, I thought, what the hey, I might as well use up my medical entitlements at the swankiest hospital where I was confident that the waiting will not be anything like in APSH. So, I chose the only lady Gynae available, set an appointment and went. I must say I made the right move. My appointment was at 10:30a.m. I left the office at 9:45a.m caught a cab and was there at almost 10:00. Probably earlier, didn't notice the time. I was greeted by the concierge staff, well he didn't exactly bow and put his hand that way as in the photo, but close enough, he opened my cab door, and when I asked him whether I would have a problem getting another one after my appointment, he graciously answered my question. 1 point there, [Well, okay APSH has this service too]. Once I entered the lobby, fuwaaaa very nice! Just like entering a hotel, not a budget one at that. I was directed to the 6th floor, the WCC (Women and Children Centre) for registration and all. After filling up the necessary form, I was directed to a waiting room, that is almost empty, except for two waiting couples. I haven't even finished the usual 10-12 pages of heavy advertisement of the PRESTIGE, when I was already called for the usual Bp, Weighing (this was when I found out that they have a lousy weighing scale, totally useless) and Height check. Glad that they didn't have a waistline check, I would have walked out right there and then. Ha!ha!ha! As if! Anyhow, after all this, I was asked to wait again, so back to the waiting room. Picked up the PRESTIGE again, since only in hospitals and clinics,do I get to read these things since I don't go beyond Harper's Bazaar in my choices of magazines indulgence. Tatler and Prestige? Puhlees, let's get real. So, I finished browsing through PRESTIGE and on to my book that I brought. I didn't get to read much before I was called to go in the Dr's Suite. Time check - that is less than a total of 30 minutes ok??? Mama mia! I like this hospital already. Now, the Dr. I LVoe the Dr., and not just because she said I didn't look my age!!! Ha!ha!ha! She's nice, friendly, gentle, funny and super cute. What is there not to like? Now I am considering to have another child, just because I like her! Notttttttt!!! I was out of her office by 10:40. Shortly after I was already waiting outside the hospital looking at this view while waiting for the cab to arrive.

Not a bad view huh?

Let me warn you though, I had to turn down a few cabs before getting one. This is because I should have expected the type of cabs that would come into this place are mostly the executives ones. I'm not paying more! Yeah, such a cheapo! Finally one normal one came in, and the first statement that I got was, Wah, 7 star hospital eh?Hmm I just gritted my teeth, and said well, why not since I am not paying! So, all of you out there if you are not paying for you medicals, try out this place.

The next first for me yesterday was Kampachi! We went to the one at Pavvy, this is our Department lunch in lieau of Ramadhan Break Fast etc etc. Now, I can declare that I love Japanese food, though I still did not touch the sashimi. Hmmm!!! Slowly. Besides the set lunch for each one of us, we also ordered the side dishes. They were yumm!! Take a look at what we had yesterday.

Edamame.
California Rolls.
Agedashi Tofu.

Agedashi Tofu - one piece person, not the whole bowl.

Ebi Tenpura Maki - one piece per person too!

Seafood Teppanyaki Set

Seafood close up - the scallops hmm yumm!
Tokyo Bento.

Beef Teppanyaki.

Gindara Teriyaki - Grilled cod fish with Teriyaki Salt. I chose this based on Pat's suggestion, and 5 others followed suit.
Sushi Bento.

Salmon Teppanyaki Set - our boss's choice.

Group Photo - Our Lady Boss in Ocean Green Baju Kurung on the right, way up front.

For dessert, the orders came up to only 2 types somehow.
This one is the Green Tea ice cream, I would rather take the Tea itself I think.

I had this Tempura Ice Cream which is Deep Fried Vanilla Ice Cream which I think tasted
a little like Apam Balik (the non-crispy ones) served with ice-cream. Not bad at all.

The damage! Ouch! What handbag would cost that much? Hmmm.
Will I go back to this place, yes! Will I be paying, I hope not! :)
Have a good weekend y'all! I heard that some people are still attending open houses! OMG!!!

This is what I do when I don't join my friends for lunch on weekdays

I drag myself to the Gym. Well, now I waddle to the gym!! Waddle !waddle! Waddle! I try to go at least once a week, it used to be twice, but somehow, it doesn't happen that frequently. Either because there would be a holiday in the middle of the week that disrupts the flow of you know, exercise one day, rest the next exercise again the day after.
Since I don't go on Mondays, that leaves only Tuesdays and Thursdays. If something were to come up on Tuesday, like a meeting that finishes late, or a very good invite for lunch, then I would try to go on Wednesday. So then you might think that I could always go on Friday right? Well this rarely happens, cause on Fridays the ladies normally would venture a little further beyond Ampang Park or KLCC for lunch so that, I cannot miss. Anyhow, today I was strong. Inspite of the lunch plan today is Al-Rawsha in Jalan Damai, I thought, I better go since I just don't have the time to exercise in the evening afterwork cause I gotta cook! Since this Thursday is another Public Holiday, I better go, just in case I decide not to go on Friday too!! Today I thought I'd take some pictures too.

These are the row of treadmills. Excuse the quality of the picture, I was on a treadmill myself while taking this. I normally do about 10 minutes of warm up on the "Glider" machine, then another 25-30 minutes on the treadmill.

Halfway into Lap 3, 14 minutes and 20 seconds and I've gone about 0.95 km. Waddle! waddle! waddle!

Still managed to smile though! This was cooling down already, no more swinging arms at 90 degrees angle. Who took the picture? Ha! ha! managed to ask the trainer who was nearby to take it. Ha!ha! so malu, but pregnant ladies can get away with anything! Almost!

Then it is off to the studio for some stretching. Side stretch here.

This leg stretch thingy there.

Reach for the toes!

There are a couple more but I doubt that I should share them here, plus it was impossible to take a picture, maintain a decent facial feature and do those stretches. After all that, it's shower time and I waddle, waddle back to the office. Late as usual. But hey did I mention to you that my lady boss is on leave today. A bonus waiting for me at the office, Z brought home some Briyani from Al-Rawsha, bought some curry, Acar Timun and Fried Kacang Panjang from the Mamak Stall downstairs and Happy Days!!!

More about the subject m/c : MISCARRIAGE

I thought I'd surf the web to find out more about what I just went through and perhaps find some suggestions as how to move on after this experience. Found some good websites regarding the subject matter. I attached here some snapshots about it, unless you have gone through it, I guess you never bothered to find out more about it.
This is something from http://www.questdiagnostics.com:
I am, oops I mean I was in my 4-5th week of conception, so it's the very early stage in the 1st trimester. My Dr. concluded that I do not require D&C. Even though I have heard the negative effects of D&C, I do have a little ningling doubt whether my miscarriage is complete and my uterus is utterly clean. After reading through this article, I feel confident that I'm ok.
Have a read through... could be useful to you one day, I mean not that I'm wishing you go through what I did, at least you have some information should a close friend or a relative is going through a m/c.
What is a miscarriage?

A miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy during the first 20 weeks. (After 20 weeks, pregnancy loss is known as a stillbirth.)

The natural miscarriage process can take days to weeks. Common signs of a miscarriage can include vaginal bleeding; pain in the abdomen, lower back, or pelvis; or passing fetal tissue from the vagina. Bleeding may be light or heavy and constant or irregular. It can sometimes be difficult to know whether light bleeding is a sign of miscarriage. When bleeding is accompanied by pain, however, the likelihood of a miscarriage is high.
What should I do if I am or might be miscarrying? What are the risks of not calling a health professional?
If you have miscarriage symptoms, call your doctor or nurse-midwife immediately. Going without medical care or advice increases your risk of complications. Your health professional will want to be sure that you:
Are not losing too much blood or developing an infection.
Do not have signs of an
ectopic pregnancy, which can be life-threatening and requires emergency surgery to remove the embryo or fetus.
Are not at risk of
Rh sensitization, which may be dangerous to a fetus in your next pregnancy. If your blood type is Rh-negative and your partner's is Rh-positive, you will need preventive treatment.
For more information, see the topic Rh Sensitization During Pregnancy.
How is a miscarriage treated?
Although there is no treatment to reverse a miscarriage, there are several treatment options for preventing complications. Depending on your condition, you may be able to choose:
1) Watchful waiting and close medical observation, known as expectant management, as the miscarriage progresses over several days or weeks.
2) Medicine to complete the miscarriage process, known as
medical management.
3) Surgical treatment with
dilation and curettage (D&C) or vacuum aspiration to complete the miscarriage process.
If your health professional has confirmed that your first-trimester or early second-trimester miscarriage is complete and all tissue has passed from your uterus, expect the bleeding to taper off within a week or so. Unless you develop a fever or heavy bleeding, you will not need follow-up treatment. Your health professional may, however, want to see you sometime during the next month.
If you are miscarrying and do not have signs of infection or severe bleeding, there is little risk involved in medically supervised watching and waiting (expectant management).
If you are miscarrying, are bleeding heavily (using one or more sanitary pads per hour), have severe pain, or have a fever of about 100°F (37.8°C) or higher, you are at significant risk of life-threatening blood loss or infection if you are not treated. See a doctor immediately.
If you need more information, see the topic Miscarriage.
Your choices are to:
Try watching and waiting (expectant management) for up to 4 weeks, to see whether the miscarriage resolves naturally over time.
Use medicine that is likely to cause the uterus to empty.
Have a surgical procedure that clears the uterus.
The decision about whether to have treatment to complete a miscarriage takes into account your personal feelings and the medical facts.
Deciding about treatment:

Reasons to try watchful waiting (expectant management)
You are stable and have no fever or heavy bleeding.
You are miscarrying in the first trimester.
You have ready access to emergency health care services.
Are there other reasons that you might want to try watchful waiting?
Reasons not to try watchful waiting (expectant management)
You are not comfortable with the idea of waiting for days or weeks until the miscarriage ends on its own.
You are bleeding severely.
You have signs of infection, such as.
A fever of around 100°F (37.8°C) or higher.
Moderate to severe abdominal pain or cramping.
Smelly vaginal discharge.
Are there other reasons that you might not want to try watchful waiting?
This website also has a table to show the comparison of miscarriage treatment options. I am not able to succesfully copy the table in the same format in this blog posts, so hope some of the information above helps and for more please revert to the mentioned website.

What a week!

It has been a very eventful week, or rather a week and 2 days to be exact. It all started on Thursday the 26th July. At the office we were all preparing for our one and only annual business trip, at least a 3 days 2 nights trip to Vietnam, only to Hanoi this year since the partner’s office in Ho Chi Minh City has been moved to … Jalan Ampang!!! Yeah, the PETRONAS Carigali Vietnam JV Dept was moved to their KLCC office. What a bummer! So we had to settle for Hanoi only. Preparing for the trip means, you know the mandatory presentation slides, the backup answers for some pre-empted queries by both the Malaysian and the Vietnam partners ladida ladidee… In the car to work on Thursday morning I felt rather achy all over and I thought I had a temperature. At first I thought it was because of my workout at the gym, but remembering that the last time I was at the gym was on Tuesday, the muscle aches cannot be 2 days later. I suspect that I was coming down with something. A quick visit to the Dr at noon confirmed that I was already burning up, 38oC. So, I took the half day off hoping to sleep off the fever that afternoon so that I could come back fresh the next day to copy the presentation materials that the others are still working on into the laptop that I had to take along to Hanoi on Monday. Our flight was supposed to be at 10 am Monday, so there is just no time to stop by the office that Morning, everything has got to be done by Friday.

When I woke up Friday morning, feeling rather normal, as in I was no longer shivering when I came in contact with water, so I thought I was fine. Off to work I went, also found out the evening before that I was supposed to prepare some additional back up slides, so got to get myself to the office then, no excuse.

Half way through the day, I found myself feeling lousy again, my fever is back. I quickly printed all the presentation materials, copied all the soft copies and then I pleaded with my husband to fetch me home early. At 4, my husband rang to say that he’s 5 minutes away. So, nervously I approached my boss to get his permission to scoot off early saying that I’m still not feeling too good. He was like, “are you going to be well enough for the trip on Monday?”. I’m like, yeah, well I going home straight to “recuperate”, should be able to make it.

Hah!, Little did I know, that I was flat on my back that evening, the whole of Saturday and guess what I was burning up to even 39-40 oC on Sunday!!! I really thought I wouldn’t be able to make it for my trip. I thank god that I have somewhat prepared with my packing list earlier in the week, and have bought all that I needed to buy for the trip, including bubble wraps, tapes and strings (this is another story altogether) and I have also changed my shopping money. Very important, this!

On Sunday, when I felt a little stronger after taking my last 2 Uphamol, I hurriedly packed my stuff, just incase I wake up on Monday bright and breezy and ok to go. However, once the aspirin began to wear off, I started feeling sick again and when I checked my temperature, I was burning up again. Since I am out of aspirins, we went to Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital also intending to do dengue test since my temperature was yoyo-ing up and down, but I’ve learnt my lesson, so I called my Insurance Company way ahead to ensure that they send in my Guarantee letter early.

Well, actually, besides the fever, I am also late. As in my monthly friend was 4 days late that Sunday. I am never late, always on time or early. So, besides going through a dengue blood test, I also had them do a urine test. Waited for about an hour in the emergency room, they gave me 2 panadols to reduce my temperature when I came in. Finally, they called us back in for the results. First and foremost, the Dr said I don’t have dengue, my platlet was pretty high at 300. So good, my urine test though showed that I may have some kind of a Vaginal Infection, and the Pregnancy Test showed that I am +ve!!! Alhamdulillah!!! I’m finally pregnant! Nayli was with us, she was estatic. I don’t know what did it, whether it was the panadol, or the –ve results for the dengue test or just the fact that I am +vely pregnant. But when I left the hospital, I felt so much better. So I knew then that I’m fine and I’m going to Hanoi. As long as I took my aspirins at the prescribed times. I even set the alarm at 12 that night to pop more panadols. Crazy.

Woke up at 6, pop more panadols, every six hours, truly I was just following the prescription. I made sure that I was dressed for the cool temperature in the aircraft. To hell about dressing up to go into Business Class, I was in my oldest oldest jeans, and my Polo Shirt, threw in my trench-coat, yes you read it right, the only smart looking jacket in my closet, if it wasn’t my thin trenchies I would have to resort to either a few layers of pashima, (the colours would just clash) or my sweat shirt from University Days. So the trench coat it is. Boy was I glad I had it, cause it was cold in the plane, plus my not so well self. Luckily I’m all warm and drugged!!!

There were 4 of us from TML, myself, Izam, Maisura and our boss Razzi. Maisura is the new addition to this trip. Last year it was with Norlina since Maisura was not directly involved in WPB. Since this year Norlina is aready heavily pregnant, and Maisura has been taking over Norlina’s WPB portfolio, she gets to go to the Review. We were joined by 4 other gentlemen from PETRONAS Carigali. Everyone carries one super compact carry on luggage with the wheels and handle that everyone seems to carry these days. With the exception of me and Izam who had checked in a huge bag each containing at least one other empty bag. We had plans, obviously.

The plane was about 40 minutes late leaving KLIA, so we finally reach Hanoi at about 2ish local time, 1 hour earlier than Malaysian time. We got settled in our Hotel, Hilton Hanoi Opera, we got the Executive Floor this time. Thank goodness we were not given the huge 3 bedded rooms like last year. Unpack, did our Jamak prayers and we had some tea at the Executive Lounge before setting off to Hang Gai and Hang Trong to begin our shopping expedition!!! I was tired I guess from the flight etc etc so my “shopping speed” was not my normal. I also vowed to myself to stick to the budget and not touch my credit card at all. So the slow motion action was good. I also planned to stick to my shopping list. Some silk tablecloths for myself and mom, some cotton ones for mom only, some lacquerware for me and mom-in law and me and me and me. For the first night in Hanoi, we finished at about 7 Hanoi time, and we thought, yeah we’ve had enough for tonight, let’s go back to the Hotel and get something to eat. We settled for the Hotel Restaurant, Chez Manon. We had the works, soup for appetizers and I had grilled seabass for the main course. I guess I was so tired that I couldn’t finish the fish, plus the thick creamy wild mushroom spoilt my appetite a little. In spite of recovering from a bad fever the day before, I was pretty ok, that night. Didn’t bother to unpack my shopping, just straight away prepare my things for the meeting next day, had a quick hot bath, prayed and jumped into bed, drugged again of course. I slept well that night. No problem.

I woke up fresh and early the next morning. My fever is gone, felt so much better. This meeting normally in previous years usually lasted for about 2-2 ½ hrs the most, but this year since we are calling it a workshop, and we invited the Carigali group from Malaysia to join the PVEP group in Hanoi, we had to prepare a presentation and discussion materials that would at least last till 3 p.m. However, miracles do happen. We managed to breeze through the slides and answer all partners queries by 1p.m. Lunch was provided courtesy of PVEP. They generously took up our suggestion to cater from the only HALAL restaurant that we know exist in Hanoi, Nissa Restaurant.

We were back at the Hotel by 3. After freshening up and changing into our shopping attire we were off to Dong Xuan Market, the wholesale market in Hanoi to continue with the rest of the unchecked items in our shopping list. I needed to get some bags for Pat and perhaps a cute sunhat for Nayli and some Pistachios to take home. When we were done with the market, we headed for Hang Gai and Hang Trong again, in case you are wondering, these two are the main shopping avenues in Hanoi to visit in the Old Quarters. If you check out the shops one by one diligently, there are a lot of things that you can get, and most of these shops dangerously accept the plastic money too!!! Again, we only stopped when it was dark and when we are so tired and hungry plus each one of us had a huge knock off Kipling body bag sized about 1mtr X 0.5mtr each filled with our purchases that evening. At first we were going to the HALAL Restaurant, then I remembered that it was our last night there, and we still haven’t tried the Lobster that Maisura was talking about in Sofitel Metropole. We actually stopped the taxi driver mid-way to Nissa and changed route to Sofitel Metropole. Gosh, aren’t we glad we did so. The lobster was fabulous. Yum! Yum! Yum! And on company’s expense, why not???

Day 3 in Hanoi – Our flight back to KL is at 14:40, so check in would be 2 hours earlier, that’s about 12. So we have about 2-3 hours still depending on what time we start in the morning. Though all our bags are packed that night, we thought, yeah why not, let’s have a final go of the Hanoi Streets one last time. We headed to Dong Xuan market again cause, Izam wanted to get some more materials and I thought I’d find a knock off Kipling Backpack to match the Black Kipling Huge “Body Bag” I bought the day before. Then we hailed a taxi to take us to Hang Gai again! We only managed to do only 4 shops but I got my table lamp that I have eyes on since last year, just a fraction smaller in size then the ones in the Hilton lobby for just a song!!! To be hand carried home of course. I also got a lovely authentic bangle from this quaint little boutique, where Mai and Izam got some nice tops and lovely satin dresses. Izam and I also got some cute traditional looking slippers for Eisha and Nayli. We did well in a 2 hour time frame. We quickly rushed home to stuff these new purchases in our bags, I had to also wrap my table lamp, order lunch in the room, have a quick shower and prepare for checkout within like 40 minutes!! We made it in good time. Then off to the airport and bye-bye Hanoi! Until next year!!!

That was Wednesday night, reach the airport at about 7p.m. Took the ERL to KL Sentral and Jack fetched me with the kids. We stopped by my mother in-law’s how’s for dinner and for me to pass to her one of the 2 souvenirs that I got for her. I was very excited about giving to her immediately. I’m like that. Anyhow only reached home at about 10:30p.m. Jack was leaving for Hanoi, no kidding the next morning on Air Asia flight at about 6 in the morning. So that night, I just met him briefly. Went to work as usual the next day and Friday. Thought I’d skipped my Yoga that Thurday evening, since I’m already pregnant and was adviced by my Yoga instructor to not continue with classes should I get pregnant. I also changed my mind about going to the Gym on Friday, since I just recovered from a bad fever I thought, I’d start exercising again next week. That afternoon for lunch, we went to The Manhattan Fish Market in Ampang Park, Izam, Zakiah and I. After lunch we went separate ways, and I ended up buying 2 “I could wear this even when I am pregnant” tops from this shop, one of which I have been eyeing a few times. Reached home, felt normal, not too tired. Read to the kids, put them to bed, somehow they slept early cause Nayli had a slight fever. Zarif fell asleep while I was in the bathroom preparing for bed.

That morning at about 2 :30 , I woke to Zarif’s call asking for milk. This is pretty normal most nights. After he finished his milk, and I made sure that he has gone back to sleep, I went to the loo. I never bothered to switch on the lights when I use the bathroom at night, cause I had my bedside lamp on, so I could pretty much see in the semi-darkness. While peeing I noticed some stains on my panties (pardon the details, here, though I need to to get facts exactly how it was). I thought ok, what is this. I immediately called my husband in Hanoi. Thank god her heard his phone rang inspite of the late or rather the early hours. As usual, Mr. Cool, (or rather later on he confessed to me that he thought, the call was a dream!) ok,relax, maybe it’s nothing. OK, though I wept a little, I said I’ll wait till morning and will go see Dr. Ashar, my Gynae in the morning since I remembered they open half day on Saturdays. We said our goodbyes and I tried to go back to sleep. Somehow I couldn’t, I got up again and went to the bathroom again. This time, I did switch on the lights, I took a cotton pad and swab my private area and to my horror, there was a thick blood clot on the cotton pad. I just screamed in horror and immediately knew this is no regular spotting. Tried calling hubby again but he didn’t answer the phone. Next I called my mom. My father answered the phone, of course hearing his and my mother’s concerned voiced, I just crumbled and started wailing. I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding what am I going to do??? My mother said go to the hospital now, don’t wait any longer. When we got off the phone, my mind just went into packing mode, cause I am so sure I am going to be admitted. Did frantic packing, kissed my sleeping babies called my maid and by that time, my father has arrived to rush me to Ampang Puteri Hospital A&E yet again, for the 2nd time in a week, I’m in that place again only for a different reason. The MO (medical officer) deduced that I should just be admitted and wait for the next day when all the clinics are open and my gynae can take a look at me.

I came in at 3:30 am on Saturday but only managed to see my Dr at 12 noon!!! He did the whole works, scanned from the outside and from the insides. The whole time, I wasn’t in pain, but I bled the whole time. And the saddest part was that he couldn’t find the sack in my uterus, just no sign of a pregnancy. The funny thing though is that my urine test that Saturday morning still showed that I’m pregnant. There are only 2 possibilities he said; either I it was an abortion, that would explain the blood clot and the bleeding and it would be a clean one, since it is still at the early stage on conception, or if it is still there it would be an ectopic pregnancy. Whatever the case, they need to do an ECG, some kind of a hormone test by taking and testing my blood sample. I was devastated anyhow. The nurse then wheeled me back to my room. I cannot remember who I was messaging immediately perhaps Jack, but I was in tears when the nurse came in again to check on me. I lost my baby! How could I have lost it??? Was it because of my high fever? My trip to Hanoi, even though my body has not fully recovered from the fever? Am I at fault? What were the signs that I have ignored. Should I have known??? This is my third pregnancy, did I just took things for granted that everything was going to be ok, just because my first two pregnant went well?? What?

Should I be relieved? That if the pregnancy were to go on, that the baby may be unhealthy? Is it nature’s way of rejecting the production of a foetus that would have been unhealthy anyway. Guess, I’d never know. I supposed I should thank god, which I do, inspite of everything that I am fine, I feel fine physically inspite of feeling the loss. My health is not in danger as of now. It is Sunday today, 5th August, the Dr. just came in this afternoon to say that they were unable to process my blood sample being a weekend and all, and they still have not ruled out an Ectopic Pregnancy, I’m still pregnant, they may need to operate on me to find that source of bleeding and to really clean the foetus (or whatever you call “my supposedly 3rd miracle”) at this stage.

It’s a funny feeling what I am going through now. This is just 4 – 5 weeks into pregnancy and I do have 2 beautiful children already. I imagined, it must be harder for 1st time will be mothers to loose their pregnancy and furthermore at a later stage of pregnancy. Only now, I know how it feels. For those who have never gone through this, you have no idea how it feels. So do not say, “I how how it feels” to some one who has just gone through this. The feeling is like no other. It’s not like you loose your diamond ring, or your maid burnt a whole in your favourite shirt and made it unwearable anymore. The feeling is just emptiness. You knew you had a growing being in you and one day you wake up and it is out of your system, just flushed out into the bowl. If I still am having this baby, the due date would be in the first week of April. I figured, since Nayli was born 2 weeks earlier and Zarif 3, I was almost certain, this baby would have been born sometime in late March making it a month after Zarif’s birthday. I was already planning to have a combined 1st birthday party with Zarif in 2009. I knew perhaps I jinxed if for planning too soon. That’s why the Malays believed in keeping mum for a while about a pregnancy and not to plan too far ahead, especially not a 1st birthday party at the 1st month of pregnancy. Now I know.

I do accept it now. It’s just not meant to be. It isn’t time yet. It’s not the right moment. Allah is great! He giveth and he taketh whenever he deems right. I should not argue or even question. It is just not right for me to do so. So, I resign to accept his test dutifully. This is fate and I embrace it.

A cure for asthma.

I have just discovered the cure for asthma yesterday! Mommies who are hoping for a fixed permanent cure for their kiddies below 18, well sorry ladies this does not work for them unless, they are Trust Fund Babies! Not that I am anywhere close. Ok, the cure is not nebulizer, or ventolin. It's nothing that I can’t even spell. The cure is RT! (Retail Therapy!!)

After the May 1st Episode on Tuesday at the A&E and my battle throughout the day with my asthma attack, I thought that I was not going to survive yesterday, my last day of what was supposed to be a 5 day rest! I mean, I have been looking forward to this 5 day break for quite sometime. Thank goodness there was really no holiday getaway planned. Supposed to pick up a “rock” at some “rock extravaganza”, that did not happen! In fact I strongly suspect this is the main reason I fell sick and got asthma attack. Anyway, what else oh yes, supposed to get a facial and have a day out either eating at Delicious with Pat or just window shopping the whole day last Monday. Did not happen either cause my facial therapist, doesn’t work on Mondays. But of course by Monday I was still not feeling well. As a matter of fact, everyday since Saturday, I have been sleeping in the afternoon, bombed out after medication until Tuesday.4 days in a row in bed, unwell. I couldn’t even take the kids out for a treat. Didn’t even sleep quite well that A&E night, cause I guess it was some kind of a healing crisis, with the medication and all. It was terrible, as I was coughing, and wheezing, struggling to cough out the phlegm in my chest. Luckily I remembered the physiotherapist (when I was admitted for 5 days for asthma in that hospital), she did this karate action on my back to sorta loose the phlegm from wherever it was sticking too when one is wheezing. So anyhow, I asked my dahlink hubby's help me to do the same thing. Well, when does one resists to whack someone if given a chance right. So, whack! whack! whack! he went, until I’m like, wow! wow! yang, gugur pulak jantung I kang! He!he! Amazingly, right after that I started to cough out some thick heavy phlegm. Oh, you don’t really care for the details, ok I stop! To cut the long story short, I did to manage to get some sleep finally. But I do wake up a couple of times to what else but cough, cough and cough again.

However, surprisingly, I managed to wake up in time for the dawn prayers, bright and chirpy, woke the kids up at about 7 or so, bathed them, yeah I did it all by myself. Jack was also up and got ready early. We were out of the house by 8:30 in the morning, after an asthma episode the night before not bad huh? So we were in the car and Jack went like, so where are we having breakfast? I’m like, wherever? (but in my mind, Raju’s Raju’s Raju’s puhleees let’s go to Raju’s!!!) You’ve never heard of Raju’s? This place deserves a blog entry of it’s on. Later babe, need to get to the RT bit soon. I secretly planned to go to IKEA today actually, listed my wishlist the night before, yeah, asthma night, …. Hello! RT? The one important advice if you are turning to RT for relief, very important to plan ahead. No matter how sick you are at the moment of planning! So seconds before I left the house, I managed to slip my wishlist into my handbag. I broke my plans slowly and gently to hubby on the way to Raju’s I guess he could guess I needed this treatment after all and obliged without needing much persuasion and pleading. Lucky me!

So 10 o’clock on the dot we were done at Raju’s, loaded with Thosai Telur, Bawang and Chilli, Fried Chicken Ala Raju (a must if you’ve driven all the way from Gombak!), and Sotong Masala Ooh! La! La! Plus Teh ‘O Limau Panas (due to the cough, or else it has to be coffee for me!) we were ready for my RT session. Good timing and all, I am ready!!! So, we did it, followed my list to the letter, almost, with one addition or two, left the furniture haven 2 hours later, happy, elated and wheezing free, well sort of lah. Even my hubby commented how my asthma seems to have cured after spending time in IKEA! Aaahh what can I say. Next stop Giant. How can you not get RT when purchasing food! Another hour session there, pretty fast, the queue wasn’t so bad today, perhaps I’m the only few persons who left food shopping on the last day of a 5 day break! Anyhow, double RT pleasure for me. We arrived home at 3:30 exactly half an hour before the IKEA delivery, uhuh! Home delivery baby!!! Talk about RT, no joke, I didn’t spend two hours there picking food savers and paper napkins!! We’re talking real furnitures here. A long overdue cupboard for my maid’s room, for my linen and towels; another bookcase for the study cum toy room cum ironing room; a tiny bookcase for the kids; a side table; a swivelling computer chair for our IT corner in the living room and finally a another bookcase for the tiny corridor between the master bedroom and the kid’s room. Wah lau! The best part of today is that everything went very smoothly and to top it off, the same day delivery really allow my “glow” after the theraphy to continue further till the end of the day, that’s when we spring cleaned, not the whole apartment, but basically the very corners that the new furnitures are going to. It’s like you went shopping for clothes and shoes then come home to try them on. Arrrr happy happy, all the while drinking loads of warm water in between and walking around the house, like what Jack said reminded him of the movie, The Shadow, starring Alex Baldwin. I had to because I have house mite allergy, that means no dust, so no house work (He! He! Lucky me!), so the only way that I can do house work, should I REALLY REALLY NEED TO, is to cover my nose and mouth. Since we were frantically tidying up the house, kids all excited from a whole day out, Jack decided to relief me from cooking dinner, thank goodness, I am sooo blessed today! We had dinner at our favourite Kelantanese food stall nearby our place, even fetched my mother-in-law to join us for dinner. Ahhh this has turned out to be a good day for me. Thank God! Almost forgot the A&E incident, ALMOST!!!

Aaaar but back at work today! No I didn’t write all these today at the office, wrote all this last night as if I’m writing it Thursday morning. Saved it in word, and just post it this morning. Planning, that’s why I’m in Planning Dept, I am just sooo born for my job!!!! Yeah, right, bet my mother has some stories to oppose that statement. Ok, it’s actually 12:13 a.m and my neck is aching already from typing lying down on the bed. Jack is already winding down. So, ciao all gotta wake up at 6 tomorrow. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, what am I doing still up???? Talk about overdosed of RT.

A&E

Have you ever been to any hospitals A&E? How are your experiences so far? Good? Bad? Why did you go there and at which level of emergency were you there for? What I will relate to you here is what happened to me today at the very well known Private Specialist Centre nearest to my place.

Let me begin by stating that I really have no problem with this hospital. I have been going to this place ever since I have been with Talisman, my current company. They really provide good medical coverage so we enjoyed the best of medical treatments and facilities offered. That was where I had my 1st child and my 2nd, where they went for their full 2 years immunizations. That was where I was hospitalized for 5 whole days for asthma, that was also where I got my treatment for the thingy that I had in my eyelids back then when I was a daily contact lenses wearer. The hospitalization services are superb, staff is friendly and courteous. Food is good too, and added bonus, if you are there for something that did not kill your appetite, or you have visitors who loves eating hospital food (like my kiddies).

So what happened to me today was really upsetting. I went in this morning at about 10 a.m ( I am very sure of this as the number chit that we got, stated 10:07) so, it took a couple of minutes for the staff at the registration counter to pass me the chit. So I rushed in short of breath, breathing loudly and heavily, almost panting and saying, please I need the Neb showing him a gesture with my hand to my mouth (Nebulizer, the inhaler that is given to an asthmatic during an attack like the one I had that morning. This is nothing new to me, I know I need that thing. In fact I had it 2 weeks back, on the 21st April, in Klang remember I wrote something about it in my previous blog?

While I said that, I passed him my Mediclinic card, so this happened as soon as I arrived that is at 10ish. This is a critical point to note, as something happened in relation to this matter a little later on. So let me explain how this Mediclinic card works, our HR awhile back decided to source out our medical packages to an Insurance company. In order to obtain medical treatment without outright payment, we are to only get medical treatments at hospitals or clinics that accepts this card. This is for walk-in – emergency cases. However, if it is for a set appointment with a doctor/specialist/dentist, we have to obtain the Guarantee Letter (GL) a day or two before the said appointment, or else we would have to wait a while for the GL to be sent from the Insurance company to the hospitals/clinics. In other clinics there is just no problem, I would have to fill in a Mediclinic Form that is readily available sign it, the staff there would cross check my details with my Mediclinic card and perhaps my ID, and walah treatment is free an immediate. I have come to this particular hospital’s A&E unit before and used this card twice before today, the 1st incident I had to wait almost 45 minutes after seeing the doctor before we were allowed to leave and the Insurance Company took awhile to fax in the GL and I had the kids with me, can’t remember whether it was me or them who needed treatment. The 2nd incident, there was no waiting. Ok,I stop here for now.
So my number on the chit at 10:07 was 1012, and the current number being called was 1007, if I was not mistaken. Naturally, I waited, the A&E lounge was too cold, only caused me to wheez more, thus cough more, so I opted to wait / stand outside. 15 minutes of waiting, someone called me to go have a blood pressure test, temperature check the normal mini pre-check up before the Medical Officer (MO) will see a patient in this hospital’s A&E, don’t know about others. The nurse had problems with the bp machine because I guess I was pretty anxious with all the wheezing, the coughing, the waiting outside… She was like, calm down, please I need to do this reading again because it is incorrect. Please try to calm down. How can I calm down, I cannot breathe!!! So, I was saying boleh tak bagi saya nebulizer sekarang? Saya dah tak tahan nie!!! To which she replied, sekejaplah, mesti jumpa Dr dulu, utk dapat tau ubat apa nak pakai. Yeah, hello woman, I cannot breathe nie, nak tunggu apa lagi nie.

Did I then get the neb? Noooo! I had to wait further cause it wasn’t 1012 yet. By then it was only 1010 and it was already 10:30 and I was breathless, and wheezing and coughing my lungs out, outside the A&E and was half crying (yes, unfortunately I get emotional quite easily, and when I am upset as in angry, but cannot scream at someone, I cry way too easily!) That did it, I was thinking to myself am I at an Emergency Unit or what??? Why am I waiting when I am half dyeing here? What constitutes a really emergency, blood and cuts and and no longer breathing? What? So I barged in much to (must be, I’m guessing) the embarrassment of my hubby who is ever so patient, and said, Please I need to see the Nebulizer right now, I have been waiting for over 30 minutes, and I just cannot breathe and I am coughing like this. Please!!!! No as coherent as that I was almost in tears already. And guess what, when you act crazy or diva ish like that, they let you in, and guess how long the doctor took to diagnose my condition and prescribed to the nurse what medication to be put into the neb, a whole of 3 seconds of the stethoscope on my already tight, wheezing, phlegm filled chest. 3 seconds, and I had to wait 30 minutes, and they even had a dedicated ASTHMA BAY, there was even a sign at the top of the cove! I was so upset, that they couldn’t let me jump queue just for 3 second to see the MO, then I can bel left in the asthma bay with the neb, that’s all I am asking. Why did I have to endure 30 minutes of pain just be cause it wasn’t my turn yet, couldn’t they see how bad my condition was compared to the other patients who were waiting?

So, I got 2 rounds of the Neb, and I became better instantly!! But by then I was soo so tired because of the length of time I was short of breather I guess, it really drained out all the energy (or what was left) in me.

Then came the medications, wait, wait and wait for my turn, and when the medication has been dispensed of, the cashier told me, ummm we actually have to wait for the GL, cause we need to see if it is covered. That’s was when I blew my top again. Miss, it is 11:30, I gave the registration counter my card at 10! Are you telling me, it takes 1 and a half hour to get a fax from the Insurance company???????? I don’t know whether it was the insurance company’s fault or the registration fella was late in calling them, I don’t care. I am sick, do I need to wait this long????? Puan, tapi kami ada ramai orang hari nie, yelah tapi saya dah bagi kad say daripada pukul 10 tadi!!!!!! Aaaaaa I am so furious with this system!!!!!! If it was my child who was sick, I swear I would have gone even more ballistic this morning. Crazy. What a day!

I went home, so tired. Thank goodness my parents took my kids with them to the wedding that I was supposed to attend and later on, to send their maid to the LCCT to catch a flight home. So, I managed to have a good rest. I am much better now, still wheezing a little, took my medications already. But guess where I am not going should I need a another neb shot????

Holidays and Sick Days

I have been very quite for quite sometime, cause nothing much has been happening. Yeah, after my “whirlwind birthday weekend”, things have been pretty quite at least on my side, because I have not been well. Nothing major but go on don’t stop putting the order for the Get well soon bouquet and helium balloon.

It all started the day on Wednesday, we all have been looking forward to the next Futsal practice. I was prepared, mentally and physically too. Monday, was never my exercise day but in order to have a one day rest before Wednesday, I made sure that I got myself to the gym for my normal workout. It’s usually 10 minutes on the rowing machine, and another 20-30 minutes of breeze walking (usually at 6km/hr) on the treadmill. I even put in a 5 minutes running in between the walking to ensure that I do not get anymore cramps when I’m in the futsal field.

No matter, how prepared you try to be, you just don’t know when it will hit you. After the necessary warm ups, (though now that I think about it, may have been greatly insufficient), we had to practice passing the ball from one to another. That was when it happened. Something just snapped in my right thigh! Wham! I’m like awww!!! What is this??? We haven’t even started playing yet. How sad is that? I stayed on though, and braved the next 40 minutes in grave pain. Only just staying away from where all the action was. Only managing a pathetic kick once a while, though, even when I tried kicking with my left leg, my left thigh still hurt soo bad. I didn’t bother leaving the field, cause I thought, I am already here, so I better get some exercise! It was only later I found out we were playing with extras, it was supposed to be only 5 aside including the goalie, we had like 6 aside. I could have just sit this practice out and watch them play. Apparently, Linda and Izam had the same cramps too. It felt like the muscle or nerve on my right thigh just snapped. The pain is nothing that I have experienced before.

It continued to hurt the next day too, thank goodness it was a public holiday, it was the King’s Inauguration Day. So I stayed home, limping around, nasib baik rumah kecik (just had to use Bahasa for this phrase!)! I guess the pain was so bad, that I felt sick. I actually had a temperature. This is not a virus infection that comes with a sore throat, runny nose and headaches. I just had a temperature, that’s why I am convinced that the fever was due to the muscle cramp. So that Friday at work, I told the girls I am pulling out of futsal, yeah, the star player has to leave. Boo hoo!!! I am sticking to my gym and yoga from now on. Nothing to ambitious, not anymore. I just cannot risk another muscle pull, cramp or whatever. What if there was no Public Holiday the next day, I cannot be taking Medical leave every Thursday??

So that was my Wed-Friday last week. I was actually looking forward for the weeked, this weekend cause it’s going to be a long weekend for me. Taking the Monday off too, plus another 2 public holidays, 1st May being the Labour Day and Wesak Day, with the 2nd as a replacement holiday. I have 5 glorious days at home eh, planning to go for a facial on Monday(today) since Nayli will be in school, I can leave a little earlier, before His Royal Highness wakes up from slumber, and come home just after she returns from school. Again, my plans did not materialize. Called my Facial Salon, found out the sad fact that, my favourite therapist is off on Mondays (only ever had her the last time which was the 1st time ever, so naturally I want her to do my face again). Currently they are fully booked Monday-Wednesday! Can you believe that? I thought no one goes to this place. Apparently they are more suckers out there besides me. In the name of indulgence, pampering oneself, tra la la la la. So I cannot get my facial today, but rest assured, I have been put on their waiting list for tomorrow or Wednesday. But, but I have a wedding tomorrow and made plans with Jack to take the kids to watch Spidey 3 on Wednesday, should we be able get to log on tgv's website! Something wrong with their line this couple of days. Hope, they will call me (the facial salon that is), and I will be able to run off for about 3 hours altogether for a facial.

So, where was I, yeah, my supposedly 5 glorious days of holidays well, I have been sick since Saturday afternoon. I don’t know what is wrong with me, I have been having this on and off runny nose and I feel slightly feverish all the time. Thank goodness, my facial today is cancelled. I am just too weak to drive anywhere. I would have wanted to go to IKEA, or even take the kids to the Toys R’US or somewhere. Oh, well there are still 2 more days. Hope I will feel much better tomorrow.
