Mee Udang at Kuala Sepetang

Has anyone heard about this? Yep, Mee Udang @ Kuala Sepetang. Nope it isn't an email address. It's actually a dish that you can get in Kuala Sepetang, Perak. Never been there myself, but thank goodness for my hubby, who actually brought some home for me.

What's is so great about the mee right? Well, if you know me, you will know these few facts about me with regards to prawns/shrimps:

1) I hate cleaning them
2) I cannot clean them, once I start, my hands would start to get really itchy
3) I don't like the taste of them in general unless their lobsters
4) I do not eat small tiny prawns, because from experience, I tend to get a certain kind of allergy reaction, either my mouth would feel kind of itchi or I start feeling nauseas and would have to vomit out everything that I have just consumed
5) Later on I realise that it isn't so much about the size of the prawns or the price, but it is more about the freshness

So back to my mee udang story. Right, so due to the 5 factors above, and most importantly point number 3, I have never ever had mee udang in my entire 33 ++ years of life. I was never really that excited with the emails that have been circulating and the stories I have heard from friends and also my husband's previous experience trying the Mee Udang. When he brought home the infamous Mee Udang one day I was rather sceptical about trying the Mee Udang for I was afraid that I would break into one of those allergy reactions after having had the dish.

I tried it anyhow, and waited and waited and waited for something to happen. I thought at first my mouth was feeling funny, but then guess it was more psychological more than anything. After an hour still nothing. So the verdict is... the Mee Udang in Kuala Sepetang is sooooooo fresh!!!!! No allergy reaction nothing!!! Amazing. Even though hubby bought it at perhaps 2p.m and I had it at about 8p.m that night. Having never tasted Prawn Mee before, I thought it was alright, but the difference with this Mee Udang was that in one small pack of mee, there was 12, I repeat a dozen!!! prawns, where can you get that in any other shops right? 12 prawns.

The one brought home

The ones that my hubby brought back were the RM8 ones, the different prices reflects the sizes of the prawns, apparently there are the RM10 and also RM12. You can also get Nasi Goreng Udang, Nasi Udang (as opposed to Nasi Ayam) and even Kuey Teow Udang.

Nasi Goreng Udang

Hubby tried the Nasi Goreng Udang the 2nd time he was there. He thought that was pretty good too. I guess the fact that the prawns are so fresh that makes the dishes so good and if you are prawn crazy you would really love it than. The next time you are heading up North, give this a try, drop by for lunch at Kuala Sepetang, cannot give you the specific direction, all I know is you need to take the Highway exit at Changkat Jering once you find yourself in Kuala Sepetang, I guess you can always ask the locals the whereabouts of the gerai. Happy Trying!!!
