Report Card, A Wedding & Northern Indian Food

Last Saturday was Report Card Day at Nayli's school. The exam was actually held during the last week of term before the mid-term school holidays. Nayli did well thank goodness. Though we were not that happy with her Maths results because she made some careless mistakes that could have been avoided. I must give all the credit to her, because I basically provided her with materials, as in workbooks only, and the "occasional", "Nayli, do your homework! or "Nayli, do some exercises!!!". The rest were all her doing, really. Especially for Arabic! With Zaim, I really do not have the time nor energy to sit down next to her and coach her. Zaim's bed time is around 8 ish onwards, by the time he falls asleep, I would be in La La Land with him too. By the time I'm awake again to perform my Isya' prayers it would have already been Nayli's bed time. Hubby also helps to check her work and if she has any problems with her exercises. Poor girl, her mother would be able to spend more time with her, as Zaim grows older. How do others do it, I wonder?

Checking for her name, results and the rest of the class's results. Nayli is way down at the bottom of the list because of the "W" factor. Glad that is the exact opposite with her results.

2 Arif.

Her seat in class. Hmm wonder why she is in between 2 boys, are we looking at Miss Chatterbox here?

How it's looking at other classes. Parents waiting for their turn to talk to the teacher.

Position in class.
Happy Kid... cause she is already dreaming of her new bike!

*******************************

Sunday, after swimming lessons and Dim Sum breakfast we headed to Bangsar for a wedding. I was looking forward to this wedding because of the venue. It was held at a Showroom at BRDB in Bangsar. The wedding of a sculpture, whom hubby works with for one of his biz projects. His name is Abdul Multhalib Musa, his work is even featured outside the Prince Court Medical Centre, KL. This may be nothing compared to the fact that he finished at the top 100 in the sculpture competition in Beijing, held concurrently with the last year's Olympics.

Abdul Multhalib Musa, 32, one of Malaysia’s contemporary sculptors received recognition to be the first Malaysian to be chosen to contribute for his artwork, which is now displayed at the Beijing Olympic Park City.[KLIA Times magazine: interview 2008 by T. Vignesh. Published in KLIA Times, September 2008 issue, pp 3.]

The path leading to the main hall.

The reception area, notice the white rose petals strewn on the counter top. I was to shy to take a photo in front of the reception desk. I also had the Auto Flash light turned off, to avoid the flash burst.
Those 3 men, behind the counter, are preparing drinks. The desserts are also served there, more about this in a bit. Notice how I keep having these stacks of plate in my pictures. Some composition huh! No, these are not intentional, sorry.

Tucking in, letting hubby and kids eat first, while I let Zaim play around the lobby area. Zaim who has just started walking just loves to be let loose, and I love taking pictures of him and his antics!

How can I not, talk about a wedding without featuring the food served right? For a Malay wedding, the food served was rather unconventional yet surprisingly welcoming. It was Northern Indian dishes, right to the desserts.

On my plate was The Pilaf Rice, Dhal Curry, Spinach and Cheese and the Chicken in Tomato Gravy. Nice, if only they had Naan Bread too. Yumm!

There was also Sheesh Kebab, which I missed, so we had that only much later... while killing time waiting for the Bride and Groom to arrive.
Northern Indian Desserts, names I cannot remember.
Sculptures by the restroom area, wonder whether it's his work too? I dunno.

This is definitely his, since we saw relatives and friends taking pictures by this sculpture.

There were plenty of artwork on display around the hall.

Another sweet dessert, Gulab Jamun if I'm not mistaken. Really dead sweet. Tasted like a sweeter version of a Bread 'n Butter Pudding. Too sweet for me though.

Zaim back in his mobile throne.

Another sweet dessert called Jelabi, not to be mistaken as Jellabies!!!

They arrived. Check out what the bride is wearing. Very cool head gear, that I will never ever be able to pull off, and such nice kaftanish dress. The material and pattern is so lovely, don't you think?

Sorry the picture is not so clear. I forgot that the Auto Flash was still off!!! Too late to change it then.

This is the place, Bandaraya Development Berhad Showroom, just across BSC.

Until my next update... to-de-loo.

Mee Rebus dan Pasembur Utara

Sometimes when there is a willing driver, and an available car, we would head out a little further than the KLCC area. For an ensured good quality Chicken Rice, Malay style, we would head out to this little shop in Kampung Baru area. Where exactly this place is, is quite hard to describe, I also forgot the name of the road. Not to difficult to get to though. Anyhow, that's where we had lunch yesterday, Friday. Other items on the menu that we have tried is of course I guess must be their speciality, hence the very name of the restaurant, Mee Rebus and Pasembur Utara. We did not have the Mee Rebus today. I've had the Mee Rebus before and yes it is good. Oh, another thing the ABC (Air Baru Campur a.k.a Ais Kacang) is good too.

We realised as we entered the shop today, they have just refurbished the place. It looks really, bright, and clean. I guess, it must be the due to the Sunflower yellow of the walls, pillars and chairs. Also the newly tiled floors. I think it was just plain cement before.

Our lunch time is earlier than others, so plenty of seats available, also it ensures faster service.

This fella must be wondering what in the world is this woman taking a picture for. She is in a Nasi Ayam warung for goodness sake? Is she a tourist? Doesn't look like one!

This is our appetiser, the Pasembur Special - i.e with Sotong and Paru.RM5.00 Only. Yumm!

The Chicken Rice. RM5.00 Only too! New presentation here too. With this "Banana Leaf" plate as opposed to normal Red Melamine Plate before.

Halfway through. After the Pasembur, it was not easy to finish this.

By then it was already pouring outside.

But I managed! :-)

House of Sundanese Food, Suria KLCC

Happy Birthday Izam!!!! Yesterday was Izam's Birthday. She chose the House of Sundanese Food at KLCC for her birthday treat. We all trooped over to that place for a big big meal as follows. It was lovely as expected. For those not familiar with this place, I have some pictures for future reference, he!he!he!

Once you sit down, they will serve this Malinja Crackers and a tiny mortar of belacan. This combination is just simply superb, especially at lunch time, way past your lunch time.

We ordered this soup, thinking that we wanted something gravyish to have with our rice, knowing that we will be ordering dry dishes. So this soup here is called Sayur Asam (RM5.50 per bowl). It has quite a tangy taste. It is supposed to be an appetizer. I found that it goes well if you just sip it like a soup, doesn't work too well especially like me, I chose the Nasi Kuning (sorry forgot to take a picture of this Yellow Rice) instead of Plain White Rice.

This is Cumi Cumi Bakar (RM7.50 per pc), Yes, so it's basically one piece of this Squid basted with sweet sauce and slowly grilled over charcoal per person. Really nice, one piece person may sound insufficient however, if you order more than one dish, it's quite sufficient. That coming from me, you gotta believe.

We had 2 dishes that were the Piece de resistance, because they are really good. Trust me. The first one is this Sedap Ikan Seabass Bakar - Cooked Sundanese Style, apparently the basting process itself is an art. It prevents drying out leaving a juicy succulent fish a special sweet sauce. Really it does. Oh, and it costs RM59.90 per dish. A ha! my friend. No joke.

This is the other Piece de Resistance that we seldom take cause you don't really get that much flesh, nevertheless, it's worth trying. It's aptly called Ikan Nila Goreng, The Sundanese "Dancing Fish" that tastes every bit as wonderful as it looks. The fish is deep fried to make the skin crispy and the flesh succulently juicy. The price is a juicy RM43.90 per plate.

Me and Izam, the Birthday Girl.

This one here is the Sambal Terong RM13.00. A simple fried eggplant dish that is topped with a thick mildly spice sauce.

Izam, Zailan (who has under the table, a newly purchase Blackberry, hate him!) and Norlina (our boss).

Azleen and Zakiah.

From Left to Right: Norlina, Zila, Hafiz, Linda and Maisura.

For dessert, I had this Es Cendol. Yum! This is RM4.50 each.

Maisura had this Es Campur costing RM6.00 per bowl.

And the majority who were Mango lovers, had this Mango Lolo. Yes, it is a good as it looks and only RM4.50 each.

Cannot resist another angle.

There were other dishes ordered that are featured here. We also order Kerodok which is actually our version of Gado-Gado, Gado-Gado Ayam, which is as the name explains, Gado-Gado with chicken and not with peanut sauce, but with a much lighter dressing. Hafiz also ordered Ayam Bumbu Rujak because he doesn't eat fish. This is chicken in a smooth rich sauce of blended spices and chillies, quite good. Oh, finally the Kangkung Cha, which is Kangkung Vege cooked in Tau Cheo(Soya Bean paste). Here's the very long bill. Srutinising it, I found that the 1st line, was Emping, this was the Malinja crackers that was served once you are seated, well didn't know they charge them!!! I have always thought they were free.
